Well this sucks

So yesterday I took my computer to a computer repair shop an hour away from where I live and ended up having to leave it there.

I am unamused.

Apparently, it's going to have to be taken apart to find out exactly what's broken on it (meaning it isn't necessarily the hinge that's broken, it could be some other part of the casing). I don't know how long that's going to take, but I'm supposed to get a call whenever they find out so they can tell me how much it's going to cost for repairs (joy). After they find out what part is broken they'll have to order a new part. They told me that Toshiba (which is what my laptop is) parts usually take 5-7 days to arrive after being ordered. Then of course it'll have to be put on my laptop.

So I'm guessing that I'll be without my laptop for a couple of weeks at least.

In the absence of my laptop, I have been forced to use the family's desktop computer. I really hate using other people's computers because 1) my files aren't on them, and 2) I'm not a fan of people seeing what I'm up to whenever I'm doing something (even if that something is just playing Solitaire). Another problem is that the desktop I'm using is against the far wall so my back is to the entire room, including the door. I haven't had this problem in almost four years, ever since I first got my laptop.

Very nerve wracking since I especially hate people looking over my shoulder while I'm on the computer (or doing anything, really). It's probably even worse now than it was before because now I have tumblr, and anyone who uses tumblr is probably aware of how quickly the content on the dash can change from completely innocent to 'Is that a penis?' (well, on my brother's dash it's mostly 'Are those tits?').

Anyway, hopefully my laptop won't be gone for too long.

Bloody Computer

My laptop works fine, by the way.

It's three years old and despite everything I've put it through, it runs fairly well (as far as I've been able to tell). It burns so hot when it runs several programs that I'm worried it'll burst into flames sometimes, but I imagine that that's normal (my normal anyway).

Yep, runs fine.

Except now the stupid hinge is fucking broken.

I went to close the thing last night and I heard a very ominous cracking sound, and then I noticed that it had closed lopsided.

Well fuck.

So yeah, the hinge is cracked. Absolutely no idea how that happened. Though I imagine it probably just gave up after so much use (three-year-old laptop, remember). I called a computer repair place and was told to bring it in and that I would most likely need a new hinge.

Goody.

Doesn't help that the computer place is like an hour away from where I live and I won't be getting up there until Tuesday (which is when The Avengers is coming out on DVD, two birds with one stone there).

Whatever, I suppose, as long as it still runs.

It's also doing this, and I don't know what's up with that, must be something sticking out somewhere.

This is a Brick

So I got really into the Parade's End television drama recently (I'm actually keeping up with it weekly, which is saying something).

The last episode is airing this Friday and I can't fucking wait (the angst though).

I came across the TV tie-in book while I was pre-ordering the DVD, and it was fairly cheap so I ordered it. It just came in today.

It's 906 pages long and pretty damn solid. I could probably kill something with this thing.

Anyway, I probably won't get around to reading it for a while yet, so I hope I like it as much as the drama (which is awesome and everyone should go watch it).
